Julian Fierrez, Javier Ortega-Garcia, Joaquin Gonzalez-Rodriguez‡ (Dated: November 15, 2007) Abstract Although many image quality measures have been proposed for fingerprints, few works have taken into account how differences among capture devices impact on the image quality. In this paper, several representative measures for assessing the quality of fingerprint images are compared using an optical and a capacitive sensor. We implement and test a representative set of measures that rely on different fingerprint image features for quality assessment. The capability to discriminate between images of different quality and its relationship with the verification performance is studied. For our verification experiments, we use a minutiaeand a ridge-based matcher, which are the most common approaches for fingerprint recognition. We report differences depending on the sensor, and interesting relationships between sensor technology and features used for quality assessment are also pointed out.

In this paper, we present the results of a hierarchical SLAM/GPS/INS/WLFP sensor fusion to be used in navigation system devices. Due to low quality of the inertial sensors, even a short-term GPS failure can lower the integrated navigation performance significantly. In addition, in GPS denied environments, most navigation systems need a separate assisting resource, in order to increase the avail...

This study investigated the effect of force levels (3, 5, 7, 9 and 11N) on fingerprint matching performance, image quality scores and minutiae count between optical and capacitance sensors. Three images were collected from the right index fingers of 75 participants for each sensing technology. Descriptive statistics analysis of variance and Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric tests were conducted to ...
متن کاملImage Quality Measures for Fingerprint Image Enhancement
Fingerprint image quality is an important factor in the performance of Automatic Fingerprint Identification Systems(AFIS). It is used to evaluate the system performance, assess enrollment acceptability, and evaluate fingerprint sensors. This paper presents a novel methodology for fingerprint image quality measurement. We propose limited ring-wedge spectral measure to estimate the global fingerp...
